Sean Beiter, administrator of the labor and employment practice group at Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel LLP, presented at the 34th annual training conference of the New York State Public Employer Labor Relations Association in Saratoga Springs. He spoke on drug-testing procedures and related negotiations.

Hodgson Russ LLPattorney Harry Meyer was appointed to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.

Jonathan Cox, an associate at the law firm of Cohen & Lombardo PC, has been elected secretary of the Buffalo Arts Studio where he has been a board member and volunteer for more than three years.

Lawrence Lawlerof Lawler & Witkowski CPAs PC spoke at a Los Angeles tax seminar July 22-23. The seminar focused on instructing tax practitioners to better assist clients with IRS problems.

At Chiampou Travis Besaw & Kershner LLP, Meagan Fitzgerald, Katie Moriarty and Scott Wooton were promoted to senior accountants.  All joined the firm as staff accountants in 2006.

Michael McKeating joined The Jacobs Team as a licensed life, accident and health insurance agent. He will concentrate on long-term care insurance. After retiring as an administrative law judge hearing and deciding Medicaid appeals for the state Department of Health, he practiced elder law for five years.

CPAs Joseph Aquino and Ronald Soluri Jr., senior managers with Freed Maxick & Battaglia CPAs, were designated as certified valuation analysts by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

James Segarra, managing partner of Tronconi Segarra & Associates LLP, joined the Buffalo Niagara Partnership board of directors.

 

Michael Chmiel,a Chelus Herdzik Speyer & Monte PC associate, spoke on the impact of Medicare liens on insurance defense litigation before the Defense Trial Lawyers Association June 16. Chmiel also provided information about the newly enacted Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007, which goes into effect July 1, 2009.

Horizon Health Services Inc.appointed Mark Cramer, Delaware North Cos. associate general counsel, as chair and Michael Maxwell, Hodgson Russ LLP partner, vice chair of its services board. Maxwell will also chair the organization’s village board, on which Kevin Robinson, an assistant U.S. attorney, will serve as vice chair.

Timothy Frier, senior accountant at Chiampou Travis Besaw & Kershner LLP, recently passed the uniform CPA exam. He is accredited as a certified fraud examiner.
